Students, parent and teachers involved in 21st Century summer programs gathered in the atrium of Government Center on September 21, 2009, to share their accomplishments. The program included creation of a history resource book created and written by students at the Greene and Doran schools as well as a photography project and a cookbook project. 21st Century Learning Centers provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. An after-school program will operate in the Watson Elementary School and at the Resiliency Preparatory School during the 2009-2010 school year. For more information about the project, contact Donna Viera at 508-675-8381.
