The 10th annual First Night Fall River New Year’s Eve block party provided plenty of opportunity to start the New Year off with some heart-healthy activity for the hundreds of people in attendance. This year’s theme, "Past, Present and Future," featured exhibits depicting Fall River through various time periods as well as its second First Night Wedding. The ceremony began with a starlit procession to Gromada Plaza at 6:30 p.m. and concluded with fireworks over Government Center. (Photos, above) First Night heart-healthy activities included ice skating in the Government Center Plaza, juggling by Leonard Soloman at the YMCA, an active indoor Space and Beyond Game Board created by Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School students and staff, and dancing to Salsa music by Grupo Sazon on Gromada Plaza, the Silvertones at First Baptist Church Community Room, country musician Bil Knight at the South Main Street Senior Center, and swing music by Eight to the Bar at the Police Athletic League. Strictly a spectator sport, the famous Flying Wallendas circus family (Center photo) presented three performances at the Municipal Veterans Memorial on Bank Street.
