Bristol Community College students had the opportunity to experience the effects of inebriation at an alcohol screening event held on April 6, 2006, in the Commonwealth Center at BCC. In an effort to catch at-risk college students, the new Campus Outreach Enhancement Strategies program held its first screening event in the Commonwealth Center of the College to coincide with National Alcohol Screening Day. CORE is an innovative project of Bristol Community College and Stanley Street Treatment and Resources which assists BCC students in addressing substance use issues. CORE offers screening and brief intervention, substance abuse counseling, referrals, advocacy, and education/classroom participation. All services are free and confidential. CORE's goal is to inspire students to make healthy decisions regarding their life choices and to create a foundation for college students that will help them meet their educational and life goals.

(Top row, center and remaining photos) CORE staff members Lisa Pires and Amy Gallant invite students to play games such as Pin the Tail on the Donkey while wearing glasses that simulate what it is like to be inebriated. Students also take a survey which is reviewed to determine if a brief intervention is warranted. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a national study about drugs/alcohol. The program is located in Room G208 and staff can be reached at 508-678-2811, Ext. 2760 or at jdaum@bristol.mass.edu.
