Heart disease is the number one cause of death among people living in Fall River, and the staff of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab of Southcoast Hospital want to see people taking more preventive measures to lower the risk of disease. Some 43.2 percent of deaths in our South Coast Region in 1995 were caused by heart disease and stroke. Many of them were preventable. Reducing stress, quitting smoking, eating healthy and getting regular exercise are the major steps that people can take to lower their risk. Exercise strengthens your heart, improves your cholesterol ratio, reduces fatigue, improves circulation and helps you handle stress. Just thirty minutes of vigorous exercise a day can have a measurable impact on one's risk. Practicing what they preach, members of the cardiac catheterization lab, pictured below, take heart-healthy walks during their breaks. For more information on what you can do, click here.
