District Attorney Sam Sutter and the Fall River Community Tennis Association kicked off a summer tennis clinic at Bristol Community College (BCC) on June 28, 2007. This is the eighth time that Sutter's office has sponsored the clinic. Sutter, who played tennis for Brown University and in ten countries as a professional, will be the lead instructor at the Saturday morning clinics for all ages which run from July 7th through the 28th at BCC. At the press event, it was announced that Fall River CD Recreation was named the United States Tennis Association (USTA) New England Parks and Recreation Department of the year in 2006 for its commitment to developing a variety of youth tennis programs. In addition to the clinic, a Grand Slam Camp, operated by Community Development Recreation, directed by Peter Holt, will commence on August 6th at Bicentennial Park and run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through Aug. 22nd. The camp will offer a program for young kids from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and one for older youngsters from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Programs held last year included a tennis block party and a tennis demonstration. Those interested in either this year's clinic or camp can sign up by calling CD-REC at 508-679-0522 or by e-mailing Executive Director Grace Gerling.
