Residents of Ships' Cove Apartments heard a presentation on smoke-free housing on May 15, 2013, and had a chance to respond with their own concerns. NHP Foundation Residential Services Coordinator Pam Anderson-Livingston introduced Western Bristol County and Foxboro Tobacco and Alcohol Prevention Director Marilyn Edge and SouthCoast Healthy Housing and Workplace Initiative (SCHHWI) Director Alice Rebelo who each spoke about apartment managers moving to smoke-free buildings. SCHHWI Wellness Advisor Nicky D’Abrosca and Partners Worksite Wellness Coordinator Angela Bras then described the resources available to assist residents with cessation and other health resources. The presentation was part of a two-year South Coast Healthy Housing and Worksite Initiative (SCHHIWI) of Voices for a Healthy SouthCoast announced in September, 2012, following the receipt of a$1 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop smoke-free housing and worksites in Fall River, New Bedford and Wareham.
