After-School Day Care Program
Action Plan Participant:
Family Service Association

A grant funded by the Fall River Housing Authority allows the Family Service Association to provide an after school youth tutorial program for the residents of the Sunset Hill Housing Complex featuring tutoring, recreational activities, drug prevention education, field trips and other activities for 25 children between the ages of 6 and 13.

 

Priority Area:  Adult Basic Education, Job Training & Employment 
Priority Sub-Area:   

4, B) Alternative programs including tutoring, drop-out prevention & after-school programs
 

Goal:

To increase the number of students who access the after-school tutorial programs in the Sunset Hill Housing Complex.

Method(s):

Program director contacts the principals of local elementary schools in the Sunset School area for recommendations of students needing tutorial services which are then provided by paid program staff.

Timeline:          

Continuous, year-around program

Indicators:       

Reports by classroom teachers of increase in academic performance

Progress: The program has been working throughout the year to increase the number of students who access the after-school tutorial programs in the Sunset Hill Housing Complex.

How citizens can  get involved:

Parent support in the home for academic involvement;
Advocacy for continued program funding
