Healthy Choices Program
Action Plan Participant:
Family Service Association's Big Friends Little Friends

The Family Service Association established the Big Friends/Little Friends program because children need the friendship of a concerned adult to help them reach their full potential. The young participants in the program are boys and girls from 7 to 14 years of age who are looking for the guidance that can be provided by an adult mentor in their life. The Healthy Choices program will encourage, educate and assist program participants in healthier lifestyles and making healthier choices.

3, A) Nutrition and diabetes education

Goal:

To encourage, educate and assist program participants (mentors, metees and their parents/guardians) in healthier lifestyles and making healthier choices so that good habits can be formed at an early age.

Method(s):

i) Healthy Choices Training - a group that focuses on making healthy diet and lifestyle choices; 2) Healthy upgrade in food provided at BFLF activities and outings; and 3) Health Information Packets will be distributed to parents/guardians of all enrolled children.

Timeline:          

1) Winter 2007; 2) October 2006 through March 31, 2007; and 3) September 2006 through March 2007

Indicators:       

Children will have the resources necessary to make healthier lifestyle and nutritional choices and be empowered to be healthier
