Gang Violence Prevention

Five youth outreach workers work as part of Fall River’s Strategic Approach to Reduce Gang Engagement (SARGE) program funded as part of an $11 million statewide Community Safety Initiative.

1, C)    Reduction of gangs

Goal:

Identify key players heavily engaged in gangs, youth with minimal gang involvement, and those at-risk of becoming involved in gang membership and gang activity.

Method(s):

Street workers provide individualized counseling to juveniles and encourage them to improve their lives.
Timeline:          

 2006 through fall 2010

Indicators:        Reduced gang membership and activity

By providing alternative activities and employment to potential gang members
