Soccer leagues abound in the Greater Fall River Area with hundreds of young people and adults engaged in weekly competition. This heart-healthy exercise is rooted in cultural traditions that connect people with their ethnic origins, whether in Portugal, Central America or Canada. Local clubs include Fall River S.C., Fall River All Americans, Fall River Astros, Fall River East Ends, Fall River Firestone, Fall River Marksmen/ United, Fall River Olympics, Fall River Ponta Delgada, Fall River Powers Hudson Essex, Fall River Rafferty, Fall River Rovers, and Fall River Saint Michaels Soccer Clubs. The New England Luso American Soccer Association (NELASA) was formed in January 2001 when the Luso American Soccer Association (LASA) merged with the New England Soccer Association (NESA).
